Social Enterprise

Cynnal Ceredigion have held a number of activities under the heading Social Enterprise. A Social Enterprise Working group has been set up, which has steered the activities of the programme in this sector, and has been instrumental in developing ideas for these activities. The membership is open, and includes organisations that support and promote social enterprises, as well as social enterprise groups and community groups.

Fact Finding Visits for Community Enterprsies

These activities have included Social Accounting seminars, Fact Finding Visits for Community Enterprsies in Ceredigion and Carmarthenshire, Community Business Plans, and research into the sector in Ceredigion.

As a development of these events that have been held in 2006-7, the programme in 2007-08 will focus more specifically on the needs of existing of social enterprises:

  • Strengthening the social enterprise network in Ceredigion to be more relevant to existing social enterprises
    • face to face discussions with the social and community enterprises in Ceredigion
    • build up a programme of events, visits, networking opportunities that address the identified needs of these groups
  • Use this network as a channel to exchange information, best practice, and informal support to the social enterprises
  • Through this network to identify support, training and advice that can be sourced from mainstream programmes
  • To look at developing a central point of contact for social and community enterprises. (This has already been identified as a need by the social enterprises in the county. It could be achieved by increasing current provision, or developing a more grass-roots contact point that feeds into the mainstream contact.)
  • To look at developing a cluster of expertise in Ceredigion in various issues that are relevant to social enterprises, such as social accounting, succession and increasing volunteer capacity.
  • To help strengthen the link between the mainstream support providers and the social enterprise sector in Ceredigion, enabling the provision to be tailored to the needs of the sector, and the sector to access a wider range of support options.
