Culture & Entertainment

cArdiCWSTIG

Mattoidz - cArdiCWSTIGThe aim of cArdiCWSTIG is to develop a Welsh light entertainment circuit in Ceredigion. The idea is to hold evenings in the more rural areas with a variety of entertainment, combining acoustic music with more alternative items such as poetry, stand-up or short films. The events are organised by groups in the areas, which are supported by CERED and Cynnal Ceredigion.

Eisteddfodau

It is widely acknowledged that the Eisteddfodau make an invaluable contribution to Welsh culture. The National Eisteddfod and the Urdd Eisteddfod are two highlights of the calendar, but a number of smaller Eisteddfodau held in rural villages feed into these larger events, and are a vital factor in developing Wales’ young talents and giving them experience of competing. Ceredigion has a number of these events, with 16 being held throughout the county each year.

The most obvious need was support to promote the Eisteddfodau in order to attract more contestants and a larger audience. Following on from last year’s successful series of 4 Eisteddfod leaflets, one single booklet was developed this year, promoting the entire network of Eisteddfodau in Ceredigion. These booklets have a much longer shelf-life and have been widely distributed throughout Ceredigion and beyond and the response has been most encouraging.

Cynnal Ceredigion has started looking at ways of extending the work with the Eisteddfodau by establishing the ‘Local Eisteddfod Support Group’ together with officers from Milltir Sgwâr, Diwylliant Byw, Rural Innovation, the Welsh Papurau Bro Network, the Eisteddfod Association of Wales, CERED and Menter Iaith Sir Benfro (Pembrokehshire Language Initiative) in order to look at opportunities to develop projects over a wider area.
